The Galway Theatre (also known by the Gaelic name Taibhdhearc na Gaillimhe) is an Irish theater in Galway, founded in 1928. Built on the ancient ruins of an Augustinian convent, it’s unmistakable with its red walls and white-and-gold sign. A great place if you love the art of comedy!
Located right in the heart of Galway’s historic center, the theater is a particularly popular venue with locals. We go there to attend plays, concerts and film screenings. Particularly active in the city’s cultural life, its programming is rich, contemporary and accessible to all, whatever your budget.
A lively, dynamic place, which has kept its youthful character, thanks to major renovations following an accidental fire which seriously damaged the building.
The only downside is that the Galway Theatre is ideal if you have a good knowledge of English: skip it if you’re going to see a play and don’t really know English, you’ll be frustrated. But don’t worry about concerts: the language of music is universal!
