For fans of Irish literature, the James Joyce Centre is a Dublin museum dedicated entirely to the famous writer James Joyce (1882-1941). This is your chance to discover (or rediscover!) his work, his life, and his finest literary productions!
The James Joyce Museum is located in an old part of Dublin, in an 18th-century Georgian red-brick building. The museum’s activities include a permanent exhibition of the furniture that once furnished Joyce’s bedroom in Paris (in the Paul Léon district), including his famous desk, the cradle of one of his finest novels: Finnegans Wake.
You can also admire a number of personal objects belonging to the writer, as well as a full account of his life, his loves (with the passionate Nora Barnacle) and his work. There are many extracts to discover throughout your visit: all translated into multilingual versions for those allergic to Shakespeare’s language!
The museum is brilliant, very well documented, and will take you back to the 19th century, the flamboyant era of Irish writers. It will give you the opportunity to decipher the writer’s novels, which for almost 80 years have been the source of countless interpretations and disagreements among James Joyce specialists. James Joyce has become a veritable institution in Ireland, making him one of the most widely read authors after Shakespeare!
In short, a visit that’s sure to make you want to read more of the Irish artist’s great works!
