Did you know? There’s only one planetarium in Ireland: the Schull Planetarium, located in County Cork, within the Schull Community College. This hemispherical dome gives you a rendezvous with the stars, yet gives you the impression of being in the open air, with your nose raised to the sky. A place for budding dreamers and astronomers!
When you visit the Schull planetarium, you’ll be treated to a fascinating show that reveals all the secrets of the stars, planets and other entities in our galaxy.
The planetarium is aimed above all at the curious and passionate, with a thirst for a better understanding of the subtleties of the sky.
And to do so, you’ll be invited to take a seat in the dome, and admire the sky, all immersed in darkness. The magic happens thanks to a state-of-the-art projector that gives you the impression you’re looking at the sky outdoors, even though you’re in an enclosed environment. It’s a real feat, and one that could well destabilize you…
There, immersed in the darkness, you will learn countless fascinating scientific truths about such varied subjects as the formation of stars, the composition of the planets in our solar system… etc.
The Planetarium offers a fixed program of star shows throughout July and August. Shows take place on Mondays at 5pm, Wednesdays at 8pm and Fridays at 5pm.
