If you like swimming, and cold water doesn’t scare you, we recommend a visit to the “Vico” in Dalkey (Co. Dublin), Ireland. It’s a very popular swimming spot in the village: locals love to go for a refreshing dip here in summer and winter alike. An access ramp allows you to cross the rocks and bathe directly in the sea: an experience to be had at least once in your life… except for the cold-hearted!
In Dalkey, the Vico Bathing Place is one of the most popular spots for locals and travelers alike. This is where you can enjoy an original swimming experience. There’s no sandy beach to get close to the water: here, a simple access ramp takes you over a rocky dike… And a ladder takes you straight to the water!
An adjacent seawater pool can also be accessed if the sea is too rough.
The setting is rather cool and unusual. The people of Dalkey are accustomed to bathing here in all weathers, the Irish appreciating the virtues of a good cold-water bath (invigorating, invigorating and excellent for the heart). It’s also a great way to relax and reconnect with nature and the higher elements!
The icing on the cake: Vico’s location means you can regularly spot dolphins, porpoises and seals playing in the waves. They’re careful not to get too close to the coast, but they’re easy to spot!
So don’t hesitate to take the plunge (when the sea is calm, of course), and make the most of the moment!
After your swim, there’s plenty to do here in Dalkey. Have a drink in the pub, and explore Dalkey Castle. It’s the village castle: a little wonder to discover!
Finally, don’t hesitate to look for Bono! He lives in the village out of sight… when he’s not occupying his other properties in the United States or elsewhere!
