And to put it in concrete terms, this year St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Sunday! Coincidence or simple coincidence: it’s the perfect date for a big 4-day weekend in the Irish capital!

This is your chance to visit some of the city’s greatest museums (such as the Guinness Storehouse and the National Museum of Ireland), stroll through the legendary Temple Bar district, visit the city’s great breweries and distilleries, admire the Book of Kells at Trinity College, and sip a pint at the pub!

But above all: celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in the very heart of Ireland, in Dublin, the city where it all happens!

The experience is well worth the detour: between its grand parade, street concerts, festive gatherings and Irish pubs pouring their beers by the thousands… This is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure!

I’ve decided to go to Dublin for the weekend: our advice

If the event appeals to you, now is the time to get organized! St. Patrick’s Day is a hugely popular festival, attracting thousands of foreigners to Ireland every year! (Not to mention the great cities of the world that also celebrate it, such as New York, Sydney, Chicago…etc.). That’s why it’s so important to get started as soon as possible! Places quickly become expensive in terms of accommodation, flights and ferries.

The sooner you get started, the better the deal! You’ll gain peace of mind!

1. Book early!

As mentioned above, anticipation is essential when planning a trip. Not only will it put you in control of your weekend in Dublin, it will also save you money.

Because the rule of travel is universal: the later you book, the more expensive the tickets! This rule applies to your bed and breakfast, your hotel, your youth hostel… but also to your flight, your ferry, or your car rental!

Last but not least, planning ahead will ensure that you are sure of finding accommodation. Because as St. Patrick’s Day approaches, accommodation is in full swing. So you can’t be sure you’ll have a bed to sleep in when you’re “doing things on the fly”. Sometimes it’s better to think about your stay before taking the plunge: especially for an event like this!

2. Opt for all-refundable

With Covid-19, we learned that nothing is set in stone. A trip may be possible tomorrow, but not in the following days. Although the situation seems increasingly under control, it’s impossible to predict what might happen next March.

That’s why it’s a good idea to take a flight, a ferry or accommodation with cancellation insurance. Although this slightly increases the final price, it will allow you to sleep soundly, without fear of losing the money invested in the event of cancellation.

3. Stay in Dublin city center

Dublin has the advantage of being easily accessible on foot… As long as it’s located in the city center! If you want to save as much as possible on your travels, there’s no better place to stay than in the major districts of the city’s hyper-center. Click here to discover the best places to book!

Another advantage: you won’t miss any of the big St. Patrick’s Day events! Most of the action takes place in this area, from the Grande Parade to concerts and local entertainment!

4. On site: enjoy the party!

St. Patrick’s Day in Dublin is truly unique! It’s a chance to meet Irish people and foreigners alike, to spend an unforgettable moment of exchange, to dance to traditional Irish music, to taste local beers (in moderation, of course), to dress up as a leprechaun, Saint Patrick or a giant harp…

In short, the idea is to have fun!

So don’t hesitate to take advantage: the Irish like to celebrate their national holiday with everyone in a good-natured atmosphere. Foreigners are welcome, and the Irish are very welcoming!

Take a stroll through the different neighborhoods, discover the Irish “craic”, and you’ll be sure to have had a fun and authentic St. Patrick’s Day!
