The flagship of the Midleton distillery in County Cork, Tullamore Dew is one of the finest Irish whiskeys ever produced on the island. One of the top 3 best-selling Irish spirits in the world, it is the fruit of a tradition that has endured since 1829. Here’s an overview of this high-quality beverage.

History of Tullamore Dew

Produced since 1829

The history of this Irish spirit began in 1829, when a wealthy entrepreneur decided to set up his own distillery: Tullamore Dew. He then produced a high-quality beverage, using ancestral techniques in which whiskey is distilled 3 times in large stills. The whiskey soon took on the distillery’s name, and was marketed as Tullamore Dew.

After several decades of regular production, the distillery closed in the 1950s, following financial difficulties. The Midleton distillery then decided to buy the distillery, and produce the beverage to ensure the product’s longevity.

Special features of Tullamore Dew

A whiskey with pronounced aromas

Contrary to popular belief, Tullamore Dew is particularly smooth and pleasant on the palate. We appreciate its finesse, as well as the richness of its particularly flavorful aromas.

Full-bodied, lively and subtle, this blend exhales smoky cereal aromas, and is traditionally served without ice. Many pubs in Ireland offer it among their spirits. They also use it in some typical cocktails, such as Irish coffee.

Considered a great classic, it can be found in most stores and supermarkets in the country. Forget the idea of taking some home, however: this type of alcohol is generally taxed more heavily in Ireland than elsewhere, and can easily be found in countries such as France, Belgium… and so on.
