On Saint Patrick’s Day “all is green!”. Even popcorn, which is decked out in its finest colors for the occasion! This recipe is one of the easiest to prepare for the big day. It’s a lot of fun, and should even appeal to children!
To mark the occasion, some Irish cinemas are offering their own “green popcorn” for February 17. Its caramelized taste makes it a treat for the whole family!
St. Patrick’s Day popcorn recipe
Recipe: St. Patrick’s Day popcorn
Ingredients
- 500g corn
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- salt tongs
- 1/2 cup butter
- 5 drops green food coloring
Preparation
- Mix the sugars, water, corn syrup, vinegar and salt in a heavy-bottomed saucepan.
- Stir over medium heat until boiling.
- Cook until the thermometer reads 250 degrees.
- Remove from the heat and add the butter
- Mix in the green food coloring.
- At the same time, sauté the popcorn in a covered, pre-oiled saucepan.
- Just pour the mixture over the popcorn when it's ready.
- Mix well to coat everything
- All you have to do is let it cool down a little and enjoy!
