Snow is coming to Ireland! While heavy snowfall was reported in the counties of Kerry and Cork two days ago, it seems the bad weather could spread to other parts of Ireland. A “yellow” warning (known as “status yellow”) has just been issued for many regions across the country due to a significant cold wave currently sweeping the territory. Snow and ice are expected to affect the counties of Donegal, Leitrim, and Sligo, as well as areas in Northern Ireland.
Major Cold Wave in Ireland
Snow Showers Expected in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland
The Irish meteorological service Met Éireann is clear: Ireland is about to face a significant cold snap in the coming hours. The drop in temperatures will bring heavy snowfall, along with a serious risk of ice.
There is a strong chance that the snow will settle, making travel conditions particularly hazardous, with icy patches and freezing fog reducing vehicle grip and visibility.
Northern Ireland is also affected, with the same yellow warning in place. Cold temperatures, frost, and snow episodes are expected.
Authorities are already advising the public to stay cautious and limit travel as much as possible.
