For the first edition of “Tourism Day” (Journée du Tourisme in French), to be held this April 17, Ireland will be making over 100 of its most important tourist sites free of charge. It’s a one-day initiative, but one that could easily convince you to pop over to the Emerald Isle for a short break!
It’s a colossal project, and one that should please you: Ireland has had the good idea of creating a special day, entirely dedicated to Tourism. Its aim is simple: to offer admission to the country’s most important sites, in order to boost local tourism by attracting travellers from all over the world!
The project was developed by the Confederation of Tourism, and supported by Fáilte Ireland. In this way, they hope to make the event an annual one, and a truly recurring event.
It’s the perfect opportunity for Ireland to further develop its tourism sector, and showcase its most incredible attractions. It has to be said that the list of tourist sites participating in the program is long, and particularly tempting! No concessions have been made, and even the most popular addresses have complied: all will be free for a day!
Travelers will have free access to cultural, historical and wilderness sites such as the Cliffs of Moher, Trinity College Dublin, Spike Island in Cork, the Guinness Storehouse and the EPIC emigration museum.
All the counties of Ireland are involved, with a wide variety of sites to choose from: castles, museums, cliffs, lighthouses, megalithic sites, breweries, distilleries: there’s something for everyone! So you can enjoy your stay and take in the sights without having to touch your wallet!
The event, will take place this April 17, 2020. Small hitch: it falls on a Friday. A weekday, then, which shows above all that this offer is aimed more at tourists than local residents working on site.
