Newcastle

Newcastle is a charming village in Northern Ireland. Bordering the sea and the mountains, Newcastle will satisfy both lovers of idyllic beaches and those who enjoy high, craggy peaks!

Visit Newcastle

The perfect destination for mountain and beach vacations!

Newcastle’s village center is particularly lively and dynamic. There’s always something going on! It also has a unique atmosphere, blending mountain ambience with the summery ambience of seaside resorts. The village offers a wide range of accommodation options, as well as numerous restaurants and pubs, which will be delighted to introduce you to Irish cuisine and spirits. Rates are generally high, but reasonable.

Newcastle lies at the foot of Mourne Mountain, a Northern Irish mountain range renowned for its exceptional wilderness. Slieve Donard, the highest peak, is just outside the village. Numerous hiking trails and circuits lead from the village to the peaks of the mountain range.

These tours are designed for different levels of difficulty, and can take up as little as an afternoon, or as much as a day… Some experienced hikers even like to pitch their tent here for a multi-day trek!

If you’re not too keen on the mountains, you can enjoy Newcastle’s magnificent beaches. They stretch for miles along the coast, and the fine sand is quite pleasant! Many surfers come here, as well as simple bathers who come for a dip…

The only downside is that the beauty of these beaches makes them a very popular spot, and one that’s heavily frequented during the summer season. If you don’t like crowds, Newcastle’s beaches should be avoided.
