Benone beach is a sublime beach in Limavady, County Derry, Northern Ireland. This beach is unique in that it is linked to another beach: Downhill Strand. Together, they form the country’s largest beach. An ideal spot to relax with the family in summer, and enjoy the view and the sun!
Benone beach is a well-known and much-loved beach for locals and travellers alike. The immense dunes are a nature reserve for flora and fauna.
The sand is fine, and the quality of the local water is excellent, making it a popular beach for swimming. The children enjoy making sandcastles, and the area is ideal for kite flying, kite surfing, napping or simply taking a dip.
The beach is also highly regarded by the surfing community. Every year, Benone beach attracts enthusiasts of all levels to test the local waves and rollers.
Other activities include a stroll along Benone beach, if only for the pleasure of strolling barefoot on the sand.
In summer, the beach can be crowded: we recommend you come early in the morning to make the most of it. Beware of sunburn: even if the Irish climate never seems too hot, the Irish sun can be treacherous and full of surprises. Don’t forget your sun cream!
Note that the beach can also be visited in autumn and winter: this time, the spot is deserted, and ideal for strolling and daydreaming. The beach has an authentic charm that is particularly different in low season!
