Why not discover Galway in a different way, by taking a trip on the River Corrib aboard the Corrib Princess? This 90-minute tour gives you an overview of the region! A cool and original excursion, where you can explore the wonders of the city and its surroundings from the water!
The Corrib Princess is a luxury cruise ship offering a beautiful cruise from Galway city center.
The boat offers daily guided sightseeing excursions, as well as private evening cruises with dinner and entertainment.
This is your chance to discover the magnificent Corrib River and Lake! You’ll be able to relax and take in the beautiful scenery, while learning fascinating facts and anecdotes about the history of the area!
You’ll pass the NUIG, the University of Galway, Terrymand Castle (a pretty ruined castle), Menlo Castle (another remarkable castle) and the three large bridges spanning the river.
The furthest upstream, built in 1818, is Salmon Weir Bridge, where, in spring, hundreds of salmon can be seen swimming upstream to the vast expanse of Lough Corrib.
O’Brien’s Bridge, in the middle, is the oldest, dating back to 1342.
Claddagh Bridge is a swing bridge at the southern end of the town. It takes its name from a former fishing district on the right bank, an area that has now given way to modern buildings.
You’ll also pass the village of Claddagh, just outside Galway. It is known as Ireland’s oldest fishing village. The famous ring, symbolized by two hands clasping a heart, is said to have originated here and was traditionally passed down from mother to daughter.
In short: the boat trip is a very pleasant experience. The staff on board are charming, and the views of the sights are worth the detour.
Make sure you bring a good sweater (it can be windy at times), a charged camera, and don’t hesitate to order refreshments on board in their covered lounge or outside. The height of luxury!
