The port of Dunquin is far from large, but is easily recognized by its atypical, winding, sloping access, lined with geometric low walls.
Its location overlooks the ocean and Blasket Island in the distance. It’s a sight to behold, and it’s beautiful. That’s why the spot attracts hundreds of travelers every summer, who come to soak up the special charm of this small fishing port. (Avoid high season, or go at off-peak times).
Set into the cliffs, the harbor opens onto a magnificent bay, with turquoise-blue water and black rocky outcrops… A show as invigorating as it is exceptional! Add to this the sheep on the road, and the scenery is complete!
It’s best to go there in fine weather: the view is clearer, and with a bit of luck you’ll be able to make out the Blasket Islands offshore. The ultimate pleasure: land a little higher up and enjoy a picnic overlooking the panorama. The area is sublime and romantic: perfect for an Irish-style change of scenery!
Don’t forget your camera: it will prevent you from photographing the surrounding beaches, the cliffs, the green Irish pastures and the blue water! A magical site, worthy of Ireland’s most beautiful postcards!
