The Museum of Free Derry is a Derry museum dedicated to the Northern Irish conflict. Presented from a republican point of view, it looks back over more than a century of tension and violence, and will give you a better understanding of history in Northern Ireland…
The Museum of Free Derry is primarily dedicated to the period of “The Troubles”, from 1969 to 1998, when violence in Northern Ireland left more than 3,500 people dead and 47,500 injured.
The museum deals with the various attacks that have affected the region, and pays particular attention to Bloody Sunday in 1972, the tragic day when the British opened fire on a crowd of peace activists, killing 14 people. You’ll even be able to hear the famous U2 song dedicated to this sad episode…
The Museum of Free Derry, although not very interactive, is very interesting, and particularly clear in its explanations. Presenting the facts in chronological order, the book’s subtle presentation of the facts will give you a better grasp of Northern Ireland’s current geopolitical context.
