The Station House Museum is a Clifden museum dedicated entirely to the Connemara pony. Housed in the town’s old railway station, where an old-fashioned wagon from bygone days sits enthroned.
The museum is housed in an old, completely renovated complex, and gives you a great insight into the Irish people’s close relationship with the horse. Although the museum is not particularly large, it will tell you all about the history of the horse in Ireland, as well as the equipment used up to the present day…
Carrioles, saddles, carriages, documents… The exhibition is very well done, and well worth a visit for all riding enthusiasts. Above all, you’ll learn all about the Connemara pony, a purebred horse whose international reputation has catapulted it to the forefront of the equestrian scene.
The museum also offers information on the history of Clifden, as well as on famous local aviators (Alcock and Brown).
Admission is €2.
