Vestiges carved right into the mountain

The attraction starts at the foot of the Mountain Mine, where one of the mine’s most important buildings is located. A must-see with its grey chimney, the building can be reached by following a small signposted path. Fairly easy to navigate, it will nevertheless require good footwear to avoid slipping in the rubble.

The gradient rises a little, but at the finish you’ll enjoy a breathtaking view of the village and the Atlantic Ocean. It has to be said that this is a magical place with a certain charm.

Don’t hesitate to explore the building: many walls have stood the test of time, and the fireplace is still intact. It’s also possible to visit it from the inside: the site will give you an idea of how copper was mined in the 19th century.

A walk that can be complemented by a visit to the Allihies Copper Mine Museum, a small museum dedicated entirely to the village’s mining history!
