Butler House is a superb Georgian-style mansion in the heart of Kilkenny town. With its ivy-covered towers, this is a magnificent place! For those on a budget, the manor house is now a renowned hotel!
Butler House was built for Lady Eleanor Butle in the 18th century, a descendant of the famous family of the Earls and Dukes Butler of Ormonde. After being passed down from generation to generation, the manor house was handed over to the Irish state, which decided to restore it.
Since then, the manor house has been converted into a bed & breakfast, but can also be visited by tourists passing through.
Admire the manor’s Georgian architecture and its newly landscaped gardens. It’s a pleasant place to take a stroll, and there’s a small signposted path where you can discover all the manor’s secrets.
Unfortunately, only guests of the Butler House will be able to admire its interior design, with art deco furniture from the 1970s. The interior is cosy, comfortable and steeped in history. As for the rooms, they’re simply superb! (allow around €115/150 per night per person).
