Grace’s Courthouse is a historic building in Kilkenny town center. Once used as a castle, then as a prison in the 16th century, the site now serves as the city’s Palais de Justice. An emblematic Kilkenny monument!
Grace’s Courthouse dates back to 1210. Located in the historic center of Kilkenny, the site was converted into a prison in 1568, before being used as a courthouse in 1792.
Renovated in 1828, the site was subsequently enlarged and equipped with new courtrooms and courtyards.
Since then, this is where most local judgments are handed down. You can enter Grace’s Courthouse free of charge. Note, however, that access to most rooms is restricted to lawyers, judges and audience members.
