The Eask Tower is a stone tower located in County Kerry, on the Dingle Peninsula. Built in 1847, it overlooks the small fishing port of Dingle and seems to silently watch over the ocean and its approaching boats…
Dingle’s Eask Tower was originally built to guide ships and boats wishing to enter Dingle harbour.
Considered a practical indicator for the latter, its very presence indicated that they should reduce sail and speed to better approach the coast.
The Eak Tower requires a bit of a walk to get there. Built on Carhoo Hill, the slope is steep, but the access road rather short.
Built of stone, the tower has lost some of its original height, but is easy to spot. Slightly domed at the base, it gradually narrows towards the top.
It offers an exceptional view of the surrounding area. Enjoy exceptional panoramic views of Blasket Island, Slea Head, Dingle Bay, the Iveragh peninsula and Ventry… The icing on the cake: you can also admire Carrauntoohill and Brandon Mountain, Kerry’s 2 largest mountains.
A nice walk, then, for a tower that promises to reward your efforts with a rather nice view on a clear day!
