Farmleigh House is a Georgian-style manor house based in Dublin. Built in the late 18th century, it was owned by Adelaide Guinness, a great-granddaughter of Arthur Guinness, founder of the eponymous brewery. The magnificent manor house is now open to the public!
The Farmleigh estate lies northwest of Dublin’s Phoenix Park in 78 hectares of wooded parkland. In 1999, the house was bought by the Irish state and renovated to welcome the general public, as well as high dignitaries.
The manor house also features a Clock Tower, as well as a magnificent library: the Benjamin Iveagh Library, developed during the life of Benjamin Guinness (1937-1992), a great lover of rare books. His collection is estimated at over 5,000 volumes, most of which have been donated to Marsh’s Library.
The mansion is magnificent, and a perfect example of the Georgian style so dear to Dublin. Here you’ll discover the Guinness family’s main living areas, from bedrooms to living rooms, and enjoy a stroll through its beautifully manicured garden.
Visits are free, and run from Monday to Sunday, provided the Manoir is not hosting a political event.
