The Little Museum of Dublin

The Little Museum of Dublin is housed in a former Georgian mansion. Here, the emphasis is on authenticity and Dublin’s natural charm.

It’s here that you’ll discover an incredible collection of twentieth-century objects, all generously donated to the museum by Dubliners wishing to share their history.

This is an opportunity to discover a collection as diverse as it is varied, bearing witness to Dublin’s past.

The museum traces Dublin’s history in many different ways. Social, political and cultural dimensions… Here you can discover the great episodes that shaped the city: from the Easter Rising in 1916, to the War of Independence and the Irish Civil War

We plunge headlong into the testimonies of the great figures of the time: Eamon de Valera, Michael Collins, James Joyce, Samuel Beckett… and we also discover the great artists who left their mark on Dublin…

Everything is told with simplicity and a slightly offbeat tone. In English only, however.

You’ll enjoy discovering objects of all kinds: photos, posters, everyday objects, antique furniture, newspaper clippings, engravings… Small anecdotes, great memories, snippets of life and testimonies of everyday life… These are the things that await you when you open the door of the Little Museum of Dublin.

But the site’s appeal doesn’t stop there: the museum also runs a hospitality program called “Ville aux Mille Bienvenues” (City of a Thousand Welcomes).

Its aim is to bring together foreign tourists and local volunteers. They all get together over a cup of coffee or tea, and get to know each other better. It’s a great way to meet Irish people… and then head off together to visit Dublin’s major attractions!

A room entirely dedicated to U2!

For rock fans, the museum also has an exhibition on Irish musicians such as Sinead O’Connor and Phil Lynot, timeless artists who have left their mark on several generations!

But the icing on the cake is the room dedicated entirely to the band U2! In fact, the venue is considered to be the band’s first historic exhibition site… and is enough to make any U2 fan swoon!

The room is a vibrant tribute to the Irish band. It presents the genesis of U2, from their beginnings to their worldwide success. A golden opportunity to discover and better understand the background of these four Irishmen, determined to conquer the charts, who met at Mount Temple Comprehensive School, Dublin’s first “secular”, co-educational high school, following an advert published by Larry Mullen Jr.

The exhibition is as fascinating as it is comprehensive. The program includes a chronological timeline, photos of the band members in all their glory, juicy anecdotes, and, of course, magazine covers and vinyl albums… In short: a room transformed into a veritable temple dedicated to Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr!

Psst… Rumour has it that Bono himself came to see the exhibition at the Little Museum… incognito, of course!

The right post-visit plan…

Finally, if you’re feeling a little hungry, don’t miss Hatch and Sons in the basement of the Little Museum, the perfect place for a gourmet break… Salads, burgers, soups and sandwiches await you in a cool, relaxed atmosphere.
