Parkavonear Castle is a 13th-century ruined castle built not far from Killarney. With its breathtaking views over Lough Leane and Muckross Lake, the castle was built in 100% Anglo-Norman style. A must-see!

Parkavonear Castle is believed to have been built after the Anglo-Norman invasions in 1169. Rather atypical, it differs from traditional square towers, and instead features a cylindrical shape spread over 2 floors. Solid, its walls are 2 metres thick.
Today, only the stone parts of the château remain: the floor and roof were badly damaged before being removed. You’ll be able to make out the trace of a staircase running along the cylindrical wall, linking the 2 floors. The keep has been badly damaged over the centuries.
