Tollymore Forest Park is a forest park in County Down, Northern Ireland. It’s a magnificent place, with forests, waterfalls, bridges and a number of architecturally interesting buildings all in one place… A real landmark for nature lovers!
Tollymore Park is pretty gigantic! Highlights include towering cork oaks, trails along the Shimna River (a pretty river that runs through the forest), bridges and a barn that looks surprisingly like a church (designed by the great Thomas Wright of Durham (1711-1786))…
But it doesn’t stop there! You’ll also come across Gothic portals, rocky outcrops (natural and man-made), caves and much more!
During your walk, you’ll discover that this forest was once home to the oak trees used to decorate the interiors of White Star Line liners! The Titanic is no exception, and it was indeed Tollymore oaks that were used for the ship’s interior layout.
Last but not least, the forest was used as a film location for certain scenes in The Iron Throne… A plus for fans of the TV series!
