Avondale House is an Irish manor house set in woodland parkland in the southern Wicklow Mountains, County Wicklow. This manor house is known as the birthplace of Charles Stewart Parnell (1846-1891), one of the greatest lawyers and political leaders in Irish history. A house worth visiting, if only for its history and the beauty of its surroundings!
Set in over 500 hectares of wooded parkland with footpaths, Avondale House was built in 1777 in pure Georgian style. Designed by architect James Wyatt, the house has retained its original furnishings and decor.
Here, you’ll discover the pieces of Charles Stewart Parnell’s life, as well as the great historical moments that made him the great leader he was.
The program includes a tour of the rooms, audio-visual presentations, and a full account of Irish history and the tensions between the Irish and British at the time. You can round off your visit with a stroll through the estate’s forest park. The highlight of the show is the coffee shop, where you can enjoy a cup of coffee, discover the manor’s bookshop and do a little orienteering for the more sporty.
The place is full of charm, and ideal for a picnic in the heart of nature…
