Ballynakill Lough is one of Connemara’s most important lakes. Situated not far from Diamond Hill, a famous local mountain, and the villages of Lettefrack, Ballynakill Lough is unique in that it’s not far from the Atlantic Ocean. The view is magnificent and well worth the detour!
Just imagine: Diamond Hill, a mountain in Connemara, seems to silently watch over the lake, while the ocean stretches as far as the eye can see. Here’s what to expect if you decide to explore the beautiful shores of Ballynakill Lough.
The lake is grandiose and has a reputation as a superb fishing spot (note that fishing requires authorization, as well as a fishing permit which can be purchased locally). Salmon, trout and other species are also caught here.
Take a stroll along the banks, admire the surrounding scenery and enjoy the magic of Connemara’s wide-open spaces. To admire it even better, don’t hesitate to climb to the top of Diamond Hill: the view over the lake and the rest of the panorama is unforgettable!
