Discover the valleys on the Antrim Coast Road

The Glens of Antrim can be explored on foot or by car, via the superb Antrim Coast Road, which winds along each of Antrim’s 9 valleys. You’ll then discover the splendors of these valleys as they slope eastwards towards the ocean.

If you set off from Ballycastle in the direction of Larne, you will come across the 9 valleys in succession:

  • Glentaisie,
  • Glensheek,
  • Glendun,
  • Glencorp,
  • Glenaan,
  • Glenballyemon,
  • Glenariff,
  • Glenclo,
  • and finally Glenarm.

Each of these valleys features magnificent stretches of grass and low stone walls, and it’s not unusual to come across a few sheep grazing on the tender grass here and there…

All in front of a breathtaking panorama of forests, sheer cliffs and magnificent beaches plunging into the Atlantic.

The views are absolutely splendid, and you can park in the designated spaces and enjoy the fabulous scenery as you please. Don’t forget to take your camera and capture everything you like: Glens of Antrim is a real paradise for amateur and experienced photographers alike! You’ll be able to take real shots worthy of the finest professionals!

The walk lasts between 2 and 4 hours, depending on how much time you spend admiring the surroundings.

As for walking, don’t hesitate to venture into the beautiful forests of the Glenariff valley. Here you’ll find Glenariff Forest Park, a nature park for which you pay a fee (€5) and where you can follow a number of very pleasant hiking trails!

Climbing levels are varied, and the scenery is as sublime as ever! But don’t forget to bring a good backpack, water and food! Here’s a tip: a good windbreaker will save you the trouble of an Irish-style downpour!
