Moll’s Gap is a mountain pass through Killarney National Park. To discover it by car or bike, simply take the N71: you’ll be able to enjoy exceptional panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, lakes and wild forests! A must!
If you appreciate majestic landscapes, then Moll’s Gap is THE destination not to be missed if you’re passing through County Kerry. The pass is accessible via the N71, a rather narrow national road with many bends and sometimes narrow passages. A dangerous, busy road that demands your full attention!
But the show is worth it! Once you reach the summit, you’ll enjoy incredible views of Upper Lake, the Black Valley and Macgillycuddy’s Reeks, not to mention the Gap of Dunloe, which you can easily make out on a clear day. But the highlight is Ladies View, a splendid vantage point overlooking the whole of Killarney Park. The view is so beautiful that Queen Victoria is said to have allowed her ladies-in-waiting to admire the landscape with her! (A rare privilege, which earned the site the name “Ladies View”!).
As you descend from the summit of Moll’s Gap towards Kenmare, don’t miss the view over Kenmare Bay: the landscape is magnificent, almost lunar.
