Moyteogue Head is a rocky promontory adjacent to Keem Strand beach on Achill Island, Ireland. The site has the advantage of overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and offering incredible views of the surrounding area. The site also boasts an ancient watchtower… now in ruins. One of the finest vantage points on Achill Island!
If you like hiking and breathtaking views, and aren’t afraid of steep gradients, then we recommend you put on your hiking boots and head for Moyteogue Head.
The walk promises magnificent oceanic landscapes, stretches of almost fluorescent greenery and pure, invigorating air.
The summit is easily recognized by its watchtower, once used to monitor the arrival of approaching ships. Once there, all you have to do is lie back on the grass and admire the view. The panorama is simply splendid: the ocean stretches as far as the eye can see, and you get the impression of being alone in the world, far from civilization.
Choose a day with good weather and clear skies: the view will be all the more beautiful. And don’t forget your hiking gear: water bottle, snacks, windbreaker, sweater and hiking boots.
Allow half a day to wander around at your own pace.
