The Dublinia Museum is the perfect place to discover Dublin’s medieval history! Located right in the center of town in the Liberties district, close to Christ Church, the establishment is entirely dedicated to Ireland’s Viking and Medieval history. If this is one of the most popular places for tourists to visit, you should know that the museum is housed in Synod Hall, a building that was once the home of the Church of Ireland from 1875 to 1983. An arch links the Dublinia Museum to Christ Church, some ten metres above the road. The interior of the building is absolutely magnificent. As for the tour, here’s a glimpse of what’s in store…
You can’t miss Dublinia, with its bridge linking Christ Church, one of the Irish capital’s most famous cathedrals. The site is easy to recognize, and immediately sets the scene: here, the establishment is both a museum and an entertainment venue, where you can meet knights and lords in period dress.
The animators don’t hesitate to illustrate medieval living conditions through cool performances and shows that are faithful to Irish history.
To put it simply, the museum is divided into 2 distinct sections: one dedicated to the Irish medieval period, and the other, fitted out in 2005, taking up the theme of the Viking Invasions.
Whichever wing you visit, you’ll be able to enjoy a large exhibition, presenting the daily life of the period, the various major historical events, as well as the details of everyday life.
The presentations are of the highest quality, with plenty of videos, re-enactments and exhibition panels. Children will want to play with swords in exciting duels… Adults, meanwhile, will find it easy to plunge into the heart of war stories! Needless to say, it’s not boring!
