The Irish Whiskey Museum is located at 119 Grafton Street. Rather modern, the museum plunges you into the history of the famous 100% Irish spirit.

You’ll learn that whiskey is an Irish (not Scottish) invention, and that it is distilled 3 times before being aged in casks.

This is followed by an overview of the history of Prohibition in Ireland, with the various phases of British repression of the Irish. The tour continues with a presentation of stills and the country’s most famous distilleries.

The exhibition is pretty cool and complete, before ending with a tour of the museum’s bar. You’ll be invited to taste 3 different types of whiskey. Your guide will tell you how to enjoy them, and how to identify their different aromas.

It’s worth noting that the museum is a partner of most of Ireland’s distilleries: an opportunity to get a rather comprehensive overview of the different types of whiskey, and to obtain information from great connoisseurs! Drink in moderation, of course.
