The Kenmare Stone Circle is one of the largest stone circles in Ireland. Located just outside the town of Kenmare, this is a major tourist attraction in the Ring of Kerry. A really nice place to discover, especially if you’re a fan of large, imposing megaliths!

Imagine a stone circle measuring 17.4m by 15.8m, with 15 megaliths and a 16th weighing 7 tonnes right in the middle… And the latter is far from being a small block! It measures 2 meters long and 1.8 meters wide, and is shaped like a flat stone on top… Two small rocks seem to support the base of the megalith, giving it a strange dolmen-like appearance…
According to numerous studies, this central block was used as an altar for rituals in Neolithic times… Traces of a fireplace were also found, as well as other remains located around the site…
As for the other blocks arranged around the central megalith, they are much smaller in size, describing an oval rather than a circle… Their layout seems particularly precise, both in terms of the distances between each of them, and their relationship to the central block…
