Dublin has a fun way of paying tribute to its own history, with attractions that are as fun as they are wild! Such is the case with the Viking Splash Tour, a rather original concept that allows you to visit Dublin aboard an amphibious Viking vehicle. Don your horned helmet, and explore Dublin like never before! A cool and unusual visit!
If you too would like to discover Dublin’s Viking roots, then the Viking Splash Tour is a must.
It’s all aboard a DUKW, a World War II-era American machine designed for both road and water racing. It has the advantage of being able to carry a dozen or so passengers on board, and of being able to circulate through the city streets, as well as using the waterways of the Liffey (the river that runs right through Dublin).
Impossible to miss with its bright yellow paintwork, the starting point for the tour is on the edge of St Stephen’s Green, opposite Dawson Street.
Once you’ve paid the entry fee (€20 per adult, €10 per child), and donned a life jacket (plus their famous Viking helmet, as folklore dictates), the tour can begin.
You’ll then discover the city and its major historical sites. Among other things, you’ll learn that Christ Church Cathedral was indeed of Viking origin. On the way, you’ll pass through :
The tour is punctuated by fascinating explanations and humorous, offbeat commentaries for young and old alike. The tour is complete and well worth the detour.
Once you’ve criss-crossed the streets of Dublin, inveigled passers-by with Viking shouts, you’ll have to leave terra firma behind and plunge into the Grand Canal on the dockside.
It’s also a great way to see Dublin from the water… and to be generously sprayed!
A fun attraction for families, and especially for children. A must-have for travelers looking for fun and wild experiences!
