Just opened in June 2023, WAVE Dingle (Wild Atlantic Virtual Experience) was undoubtedly what Ireland was missing: a sensory museum, entirely dedicated to the underwater world.
Housed in the former Dingle fish processing plant, the facility has undergone a complete overhaul, becoming an ultra-modern, interactive venue capable of welcoming several thousand visitors a year.
And it’s well worth the detour!
Upon entering WAVE Dingle, visitors are surrounded by the sights and sounds of the ocean! The establishment has pulled out all the stops, with a wall-mounted screen that surrounds you in 360 degrees! Add to that the sounds and smells, and you’ll feel like you’re swimming in the middle of the ocean, with the taste of iodine on your lips!
The museum also pulled out all the stops, dedicating a life-size projection of Fungie, a famous dolphin known to have long lived in the waters of Dingle Bay. Considered the town’s mascot, he is known for having played for many years with the sawing of fishermen’s boats and tourist shuttles! His mysterious disappearance left a real void in the village: enough to make the museum want to pay him a final tribute!
Fungie’s story aside, you’re invited to discover the ocean’s magnificent ecosystem, with marine creatures ranging from large sharks to mysterious octopuses…
Then visitors will explore the hidden secrets of the shipwrecks and mythical lands that lie beneath the waves off the Kerry coast.

But WAVE Dingle also explores other themes… Starting with underwater pollution, the disaster of plastic waste invading underwater territories. All accompanied by hard-hitting prevention messages to help you better understand the emergency situation facing our oceans.
But that’s not all. The museum also devotes a large chapter to the sailors and fishermen sailing the sometimes raging oceans. We discover the bravery of great men, their courage in the face of immensity and their myths and legends, between beliefs and superstitions.
