How do I get there?

  • by car: the best option to discover Connemara! Two possible solutions:
    • Take the N59 towards Clifden. The N59 makes a complete loop around the park of about 90 km (allow about 2 hours travel time).
    • Take the N59 towards Clifden, then turn onto the R344 which offers a fabulous road, running alongside lakes and breathtaking landscapes.
  • by bus:
    • from Galway to Letterfrack: 2 buses per day (between €10.50 and €15)

Connemara National Park

Spanning over 2,000 hectares, the park brings together a nature as well as a wildlife and flora of stunning beauty. The imposing mountains offer a panorama over expanses of desolate reddish moorlands, peat bogs, rolling green plains, and forests surrounded by gigantic lakes… In short: nature in its purest form, ideal for a total change of scenery!

Connemara is undoubtedly the most touristy park in Ireland! Every year, thousands of travelers come here to roam its vast spaces, breathe its invigorating air, and enjoy sublime views.

It must be said that the park is a little marvel in itself: a true paradise for walkers and nature lovers.

How to get there?

Connemara by car

Let’s be honest: the ideal is to have your own car on site. Whether it’s yours or a rental, it will offer you more flexibility than the bus: fewer schedule constraints, the possibility to take breaks on the road, the ability to travel a bit more loaded… In short, the freedom to explore Connemara according to your desire and your own choices.

You then have 2 choices to reach and discover Connemara:

  • follow the N59 towards Clifden (the route is a loop of about 90 km, which goes around the park)
  • follow the N59 at first, then take the R344: an even more beautiful but sometimes narrower and less comfortable road. This will take you very close to the lakes of Connemara and offer some of the most beautiful views of the park.

Note for walkers that there is a specially arranged parking lot near Letterfrack. Small in size, it may be difficult to park during the high season. Our advice: don’t hesitate to go there early in the morning, or failing that, park in the town center of Letterfrack. There are more spaces!
