In Ireland, everyone knows “The Father Ted”, an Irish series that ran between 1995 and 1998. A national success, the show used a parish house for filming. Located in the Burren, this “Father Ted’s House” is actually a private residence… but fans of the series will of course be able to admire it from the outside!
Anyone who has seen the series will surely love visiting the famous parish house, where Ted, Dougal and Jack lived. If you’re not a fan of the series, don’t hesitate to watch it: you soon will be!
The good news is that you don’t have to set course for Craggy Island to get there either (an island in the series, which doesn’t exist at all in reality). In fact, you’ll find Father Ted’s House right here in the Burren.
But beware: the location is not clearly communicated… In fact, it’s a veritable priesthood to get there. Indeed, the building is better known as Glanquin Farmhouse, in Lackareagh, County Clare. The home is private and requires respect and discretion.
In the past, the owner would offer afternoon tea within the mythical walls of the house. But that’s a thing of the past. Please do not ring the bell or disturb the residents.
Please note that there is no nearby parking. and the road in front of the house is extremely narrow and can only accommodate one car at a time. We also advise you not to park on the side of the road, as this could block access for local residents.
Even if there is a tolerance, you could upset the neighbors!
Finally, if no one is blocking the road, don’t hesitate to admire it from afar. You’ll quickly recognize its distinctive architecture, with its austere gray facade, imposing white door and somewhat impressive ambience…
A place that will remind you of mythical scenes from the Father’s Ted series: an institution in Ireland!
