If you love the Ring of Kerry and want to discover it the non-tourist way, then the Skellig Ring is for you! This short, 40-kilometre circuit is fairly confidential and little-known, but it will take you on a tour of the Ring of Kerry along some magnificent routes! Bewitching landscapes, changing colors… One of the region’s finest shows! All you have to do is set off on your adventure!
The Skellig Ring can be explored by car, bus, bike or on foot (for the more adventurous, although you should allow several days for a hike).
The Skellig Ring circuit starts at Ballinskelligs and takes you across the peninsula to Portmagee, a pretty, colorful village where the inhabitants make their living from tourism and local fishing. The program takes you along a magnificent coastline of bays, beaches, mountains and picturesque villages. There are plenty of places to stop off along the way to make sure you don’t miss a thing.
Don’t hesitate to cross the bridge leading from Portmagee to Valentia Island (via the R565 road). There, you can see the island from every angle, enjoy the ocean scenery, and visit the Valentia Heritage Centre, Bray Head, or the Skellig Experience Museum. The program is rich, and there are plenty of walking tours to choose from!
On the way back, take a leisurely drive up to Ardcost Cross. The circle will then be complete!
