A Marian shrine par excellence in Ireland, Knock is an important pilgrimage site, recognized by the Vatican. Thousands of devotees come here every year to celebrate Easter and meditate in this place of prayer and miracles.

And yes, you read that right: miracles did happen!

Many Catholics believe that the site was once an apparition site for the Virgin Mary!

On August 21, 1879, a miraculous apparition took place here. According to the testimonies of fifteen villagers, the Virgin Mary, accompanied by Saint Joseph and Saint John the Evangelist, appeared to them on the south wall of the parish church. Unlike other Marian apparitions, no verbal message was transmitted.

The event was recognized by the Catholic Church, and Knock has since become a major place of pilgrimage in Ireland. Many visitors report a profound sense of inner peace, and some testify to unexplained healings after visiting the shrine.

Today, Knock welcomes thousands of pilgrims every year, especially at Easter, when religious ceremonies are held there with great pomp and ceremony.

As for the tour, it’s nothing short of exceptional! You’ll come across a cathedral, a chapel and a round tower… All in ruins, but in remarkable condition nonetheless!

A place that’ll make you feel like you’ve stepped into a Tolkien universe! We can’t get enough of it!
