This tour will take you to Ireland’s most fascinating archaeological sites, while immersing you in the country’s history, culture and breathtaking scenery. Be sure to book your visits in advance and check the sites’ opening times. Enjoy your self-drive tour and explore Ireland’s archaeological treasures!

Day 1: Dublin - Historical discovery

Start your adventure in Dublin, Ireland’s vibrant capital. Explore historic sites such as Dublin Castle, Christ Church Cathedral and the famous Trinity College Library, where you can admire the Book of Kells.

Enjoy dinner in a traditional Irish pub and soak up the lively atmosphere of Temple Bar.

Overnight in Dublin.


Day 2: Newgrange and Hill of Tara - Prehistoric mystery

Leave Dublin for the Bru na Boinne complex, including the tombs of Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth. Newgrange is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Explore the famous 5,000-year-old corridor tomb and discover the mysteries of Neolithic civilization.

Admire Neolithic monuments and discover the region’s mystical connections with the winter solstice.

Then on to the Hill of Tara, an important archaeological site associated with Celtic royalty. Spend the night in the Meath region.


Day 3: Stroll around Trim

Then head to Trim and explore the majestic Trim Castle, one of Ireland’s largest Norman castles. Enjoy a traditional Irish meal in a local pub. Spend the night in the Meath region.


Day 4: Rock of Cashel and Cahir Castle - Medieval treasures

Leave Meath and head for County Tipperary. Visit the famous Rock of Cashel, a group of medieval ruins including a cathedral, chapel and castle perched on a hill. Continue on to Château de Cahir, an imposing fortress surrounded by a moat. Soak up the historic atmosphere and spend the night in the Tipperary area.


Day 5: Poulnabrone Dolmen and the Cliffs of Moher - Spectacular scenery

Head to County Clare and visit the Poulnabrone Dolmen, an iconic Neolithic dolmen on the Burren plateau. Admire the beauty of the Burren’s karst landscapes and discover its unique flora. Then head for the impressive Cliffs of Moher for panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. Spend the night in the Clare region.


Day 6: Dún Aonghasa and the Aran Islands - Gaelic heritage

Take a ferry to the Aran Islands and explore Dún Aonghasa, a prehistoric fortification on a sheer cliff. Soak up Gaelic history and culture as you explore the island’s unspoilt landscapes. Enjoy a traditional lunch of stewed lamb in a local restaurant. Return to the mainland and spend the night in the Galway area.


Day 7: Connemara and Kylemore Abbey - Wild beauty

Explore Connemara National Park, with its sparkling lakes, towering mountains and unspoilt peatlands. Visit Kylemore Abbey, a magnificent Victorian castle nestled on the edge of a lake, surrounded by spectacular botanical gardens. Relax in a traditional pub and enjoy a last authentic Irish meal before returning to Dublin for the night.
